always thought it would be cool to kill bullwinkle, but what do you do once he's down? how many guys does it take to get one out? heard you'll only shoot one while its in the water!

Some people are lucky and get them on the roads, for me they seem to be in the worst place they can go down.My bull 2 yrs ago, went down at 5 and it was just after 10 by the time we gutted and hauled it up to the truck, about a 1000 yds with a bike 2 people on the front rack through alders and swamp. The old saying with moose is"once there down, the FUN is over";)

SL, I'm taking both gun and bow. FC400 and .257 Weatherby. HOPING to get it with a bow, but being my first time hunting them, I'm ok with a gun kill as well. lol We are hunting the last half of season starting Oct. 7th, going through the 15th.

The deer we have aren't much good, some refer to it as 'only good for dog food'. The moose sounds like it would be nice.

I don't want to jump the thread but In the U.S I would guess that deer and elk are the #1 and #2 (big) game animal in hunting popularity. What are the 1&2 in Australia??? Got to ask 'cause I don't know...

What are the 1&2 in Australia

Popularity would be deer and wild boar. Most common would be wild boar, goats and rabbits depending on location.

I'd love it to be deer and elk. ;)

Congrats and have a successful hunt. If moose is better than deer look out, I am salivating already. I am yet to have elk, but hopefully that will be remedied in the coming years. I have had squirrel, rabbit, alligator, coon, boar, possum and deer.

Mabel set the table, ring the bell cause I am hungry as hxll.

Now I have been dreaming about Moose meat for the last two days, :D when you said it was better than deer, I can only image because I have had some great deer meat. My Pa knew how to butcher and cook deer just right. Some folks can hunt but they can't cook game to save their lives. The thought of something better than deer, Oh Boy! Bullwinkle is in trouble.

I would too from the sound of 'greasy' bear meat. Everything I have heard about bear has been positive.

So what wild game do you eat?

Kangaroo but we can't legally hunt them in my state and nowhere with a bow unfortunately, we have to buy it lol! The local deer isn't that good but if I could actually cook that might change.
