View Full Version : Shadowcat TRG and limbs

I just purchased a Shadowcat since I was very content with the Cheetah -07 which I had previously and the added A2A-length.

I did consider all the information about cracking limbs and the TRG-system problems, but still chose it over the Hoyt Vantage elite and Alphaelite (also 350 dollar price difference was taken into consideration). Plus, it looks way better with the parallel limbs.

My questions for when I receive my bow in 2 weeks:

1. If I have the TRG-system mounted - should I remove it since Martin seems to have discontinued it on the Shadowcat?
2. If the cracking limbs is the result of a couple of bad batches from a sub supplier or something - can I see from a serial number if my bow can be affected?
3. Will Martin replace strings and limbs if I would get a problem bow and how fast will I receive replacement parts?

My setup:

2011 Shadowcat
70 pounds
27.5" Nitro 1.5

Still need to find a thumb release - any suggestions in the lower price range + where to buy?

Took a lot of time to find a decent price, since apparently you shouldn't be able to buy this bow over the internet according to some retailers, but here is what I put together:

WOW! That's a cheap price for a Cat. I have seen them at around £614, but under £550!

Most of the limb problems on Cats were with 2010 bows and CAT 2 cams. There were a few problems with CAT 1.5 cams, but they were very much in the minority. With the new limbs and 1.5 cams, you should be fine.

If only it was that simple lol!. ;)

It's reassuring to hear about the 1.5 cams. The TRG was mounted on the Shadowcat at first from what I have read, but was later removed due to problems with damaging the string.

I don't know which version I will get (w/wo TRG), so we'll see and I guess Martin would send replacement parts as well as instructions for tuning/removing the TRG if needed.

I have worked with Quality Assurance and would be quite surprised if the problem cannot be traced to bad batches if that is the problem (and not the design itself).

The price of the bow is excl. VAT unfortunately, så it is actually 648 pounds, however the black color costs around an additional 24 pounds when ordering from Martin directly so it is about the same..

I think the 8x zoom could be benefitial when outdoors at about 70-90 metres and the huge peep was a gamble. I have no idea what the peep size should be hehe, but it is cheap to replace.

The '11 Shadowcat doesn't come with the TRG, and from the scuttlebut I've heard, none of the bows are shipping with it at all any more. The black bows from '11 are also all carbon, not true black. And last but not least, the '11 will have the Nitro 2.0 or 1.5 cams, not CAT cams so you should be good all the way around. Combine that with the new solid limbs and I think you'll be be very pleased as not very many people have had limb problems so far this year.

Very nice Sonny! I think the Shadowcat would be a very nice addition to anyone's arsenal.

Well, my arsenal must be well stocked beings I have two Shadowcats.

The 2011 Shadowcat is correct for draw length, 27" and up.

 So for 2011 draw length is right or just this bow?

Will be great to know the reason. :)
