I just bought a jaguar take down and it is a 60 inch 50#. The help i got were i bought it said this was a good beggining bow. Come to find out im struggling to even pull it close to my face. it actually hurts and really cant pull it back very far. is this actually a good weight for a beginner and if not how can i change it to a decent weight. I have never shot before till today

No, 50#'s is quite a bit to begin with. Unlike a compound, you will hold 100% of the draw weight. And again unlike a compound, recurves are rated at 28", if you pull less than 28", you'll have less weight, if you're drawing past 28", you'll be pulling more than the 50#s, about 2.5 -3 lbs per inch. That means that for me and my long draw (31" with a recurve) I'd be pulling around 60#'s. I am not sure if there is any weight adjustment, think that with that take-down you have to shoot with the limb bolts set all the way in. I don't know anything about Bass Pro shops, if they'd let you exchange the bow for another in a lighter weight. I'd say 45# or 40#'s. I'd get the bow that you were shooting.

take it back...asap it should not hurt to shoot a recurve... hope you run it to the same guy so you can slap him....get the one in same weight as you were tring out or realy close to it

are you using a finger tab, or a 3 finger glove?

I am using a three finger glove. It's more comfy and have more control over it. I did take it to a pro shop instead of bass pro the guy helped me out. Said that 50 is not a bad weight just shoot it 15 min a day and adventually it will become natural. I did shoot a compound as well and I love the speed and power befind it however I shot better with a recurve felt more natural and I found It easier to hit with a recurve. With compound I was all over. Another question is when hunting is it possible kill a deer with a recurve. If so do I need heavier arrows

People have been killling deer, elk, bear, buffalo with a recurve for a very long time now. I've lost count of how many deer I've killed with a 47-8 lb recurve.
