View Full Version : Which Bow to Order...?

As a Martin Silver Star Shooter, it has come time to order a new bow. I currently shoot a 2011 Shadowcat for spots and field and a 2008 Firecat for hunting. The Shadowcat is shooting well but the Scepter V looks intriguing. The Firecat is alright but seems to be less forgiving than I would prefer. I like the look and reports of the Onza. Or, do I wait and see what Rytera comes out with? Please let me know your thoughts!

Last years Onza lll was well liked in 99% of the posts on it here, and as I understand it, the Scepter V is out of house for anodising, so none have shipped as yet= no reports....Have'nt seen or heard much on Rytera's 2012 line as yet. As you know, ya just gotta shoot 'em to see if a bow will be a 'fit' for you.

The Alien Z is an overlooked bow that is great for target and hunting.

I've never shot one, but I have also heard that the Onza 3 is a great shooter. A member on here(Ehunter) owns two of them and likes them.

whats the difference between last yrs shadowcat and the new sceptor. after seeing that the firecat turned into a cougar mag i'm just assuming last years models got new names

As far as the Onza's go, it's the best shooting bow I have. Got a new 2011 Alien X and it's a great shooting bow, but the Onzas still feel and shoot better for me. Less vibration, steadier hold, virtually the same draw, same speed. Easiest bows I have ever tuned as well. I just think this is the best bow I have seen from Martin since I started shooting them 5 years ago. I do plan on switching them and my FC400 over to a regular slide and STS this winter now that hunting season is over. I will say, so far, no noticeable cable wear on either Onza after 1000+ shots on each. If I had to cut back to one bow, it would be the 70# Onza.

if you already have two apparently nice compound bows, if there isn't anything wrong with them and your looking to expand your archery sport from an equipment AND experience standpoint, why dont you think about getting one of the nice MARTIN recurves? i find that jaguar takedown model is one you could have in your vehicle and just leave it for them times you may find yourself in a unexpected place to shoot/practice a little that otherwise would have found your nice rig at home , expecially if the poundage (45?) isnt to high to introduce someone new to archery. have fun.

i like my onza 3 but if i were only permitited to have one bow it would be my 2010 alien x , it is perfect for my type of hunting , i only hunt from a popup blind, can't do to much rough terrain hunting , [ bad knees ]

:confused:Ok, now that Rytera appears to be out, should I pick the Onza or the Scepter for my bow this year? The Scepter seems to be similar to last years ShadowCat, and Ryteras Alien XT looks just like the Onza. Since I already have the ShadowCat, I am tempted to get the Onza, but is the Alien XT going to be better?

I don't know about better, but knowing Rytera, it will probably be more $ ;)

If the AXT's are actually going to come with the 3.0 Hybrix, then that will be my vote.

And the Scepter's may be real close to the Shadowcat's, but have the newer version 'Nitro Hybrid Pro' cams on them, - besides the other upgrades.

(hard to tell from the Martin Catalog because the pics of the bows and pics of the cams dont match...)

Nice lol, if only I could have that problem... :p

How do the 3.0 hybrix cams compare to the Nitro 2.0? And are this year's nitro 2 different from last years? (I noticed they have more of an exo-skeleton look, where the ones on my Onza do not)

Ok, well I like the Onza, Alien XT, and the Nemis. Since the Scepter is close to the Shadowcat, I think I wil stay away from it. So... looks like the Nemis has a longer ata, Onza and Alien both are very similar. Want to use for hunting , 3d, field. Onza, Alien, and Nemis.... oh my! Which one? Nemis guys speak up!

I love my nemesis. I practiced a lot with it to used to the ATA and weight. I mainly spot and stalk hunt. I will be keeping this bow for hunting and 3-D only and will be purchasing a Scepter and making that my Targets only bow.

here's some of my Youtube Video's. I'm using a Canon HF S30 with a external Shotgun mic on high volume.

Congrats on the getting a very nice bow buckhunt.

IMO, there are two very good single pin sight choices, and they are the HHA and the Truglo Range Rover. It will matter how much you want to spend. Certain HHA models (http://hhasports.com/products/opt-lite-ultra.htm) can top $100 new. Truglo Range Rover (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tru-Glo-Range-Rover-1-Pin-Green-029-dia-Sight-w-Light-/370591726095?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5648fcfa0f)is about $70 new. The link is for .029 diam. pin, but .019 pin is also the same price. I have the Truglo Range Rover, and it's and excellent sight (my sister is using it for now, see picture below). I have never used the HHA, but have many good things about them. Their warranty is extreme. Here's an HHA Optimizer Lite 3000 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/HHA-Optimizer-Lite-3000-Sight-029-Left-Hand-/220951047388?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3371b56cdc) for only $76.49 (new, 2010 model).

Hope this helps.:)

Hey Arrow Spliter... What do you have in the grey/black sling to go with the bow?

I just got the Alpine MR2 satabilizer and love it. It took all vibration out of the bowand added enough forward weight to it that is shoot awesome. Give it a look.

Hey Arrow Spliter... What do you have in the grey/black sling to go with the bow?We don't have one currently made, but one can certainly made as soon as our black paracord comes in. Just send us an email (hutchnsonarchery@yahoo.com) with how you would like it made, and we can go from there. Pictures of other colors are located here:http://martinarchery.com/mtechforum/showthread.php?11745-Custom-strings-for-sale!/page15 (http://martinarchery.com/mtechforum/showthread.php?11745-Custom-strings-for-sale%21/page15)
