Was out this morning in my ladder stand and it was a lot cooler than it has been. Nobody told the skeeters to take the day off so I cranked up the Thermacell. I have a Big Game Ultra-View and the floor kind of butterflys around the tree. Anyway I placed the Thermacell on the floor to my left and went about scanning the trails for deer. After a while I smelled smoke and looking down I saw a leaf had fallen on the unit and was about 30 seconds away from blazing up. Put out the leaf without incident but just a reminder to watch the deer and glance at any other equipment you may be utilizing. Safe hunting!:o

I'm glad everything turned out alright for you. I never thought one of those could do that.

I didn't either but it fell right on the edge where the pad didn't cover. Smoldered but didn't light. When you're 15 ft in the air and tethered to a tree, the last thing you want to smell is smoke.:)

Safety should always be our first concern. You brought up your idea. Now I have say that everybody who plans on goin up a tree should wear a full harness. I don't want to hear any horror stories later on. Anybody who falls and gets killed will be automatically banned.

Used to not wear a harness but I'm getting too old to fall out of trees and laugh it off. It's just better to be safe than sorry. Remember the old saying, "If you're going to be stupid you better be tough."

trees are out for me this year. maybe permanently:mad:. I've been having major muscle spasms in my lower back for the last 4mos. xrays show nothing. going to a specialist AFTER season. thinkin its nerve damage from my younger days when i fell in a 5ft hole and was paralyzed for 3hrs before i could feel anything from the waist down. Whatever is causing the pain has a bad habit of dropping me straight to my knees for no reason. can just be standing around talking n suddenly I'll drop to the ground. I dont need that happening 20ft up. harness or not. lol. That's OK,though. I like spot/stalk much better. I hate waiting

I feel for ya man. I went through the bad back thing for 30 years before I had surgery. Was good for a year and it started up again. Lasted about 4 years with results like you. Sometimes the pain would almost knock me to my knees. Then mysteriously it just stopped--- like right now. That was last December and I'm still good. You can't imagine how nice it is to get up in he morning and just go. No more taking 1000mg of ibuprofin and waiting for it to kick in so I can get dressed. Life is good again for this old man. Hope you get yours straightened out.

With me it was citrus, have a glass of lemonade, expect a gout attack next morning! A miserable afflicition! Another reason to be carefull, and speaking of being carefull, My son and I were thinking of setting up the Foxpro came call to call in a bear, which is spooky enough, but today after we got back from running the trail cameras, we found something else to worry about. Anybody want to come predator calling with me?

I'm also in that blind, so there's only one unaccounted for cat, and I also have a sidearm. We've got that problem handled, Houston!

Please don't kill the cats. Trap them live and put them in cages, poke them with sticks till there real hungry and drop off in San Francisco.

Hahaha, that is funny. My sister inlaw says it was mean (had to explain my laughter). She doesn't know about all the tree hugging, man eatting predator saving bureaucrats out there.
