View Full Version : Cracked limbs

So I have a 2005 shadowcat that I got used in January. He assured me that it had never dry fired the bow. I'm march I noticed that there were cracks on both limbs on the inside of the "forks" or fingers or whatever you want to call it. I spoke to a guy that used to be a Martin dealer and he said that he had been shooting with his limbs that are cracked the same way and I should not worry.

Today I noticed that the cracks are getting bigger and the one limb it seems that the cracks are connected in a u shape. The cracks are only on the top. What do I do now?

I would stop shooting it and contact Martin. Their contact info: 1-509-529-2554 and press three for tech support.

A.S. has given you the proper info. The dealer you mention is either incompetent or just plain lying. Shooting a bow with limbs known to be cracked or split is just asking for trouble. For info what limbs are on your bow? Are they the Elite (recurve) or straight limbs, and if straight what length? They would be either
16" or 14".

They are the elite limbs. I think the warranty replacement is out of the question as I got it used. How much are replacement limbs? The dealer I mentioned has the limbs I need (7H) but when I asked how much for them ( when I told him mine were cracked) he wanted around $250. Keeping in mind that I am from South Africa. Just don't want to get ripped off

I know Martin discontinued making the Elite limbs a couple years ago so I don't know what they may have in stock. I also don't know if I have the information any more but I think I recall the Elite limbs costing around $200, but that was several years ago. Tack on shipping and $250 might not be so bad. You might also put an WTB ad on Archery Talk and see what you can find used. Another option might be to contact Dave Barnesdale and see if he can make you a pair. One thing about Barnesdale is that you are getting the best limbs known to man. I guess it does boil down to how much you want to spend on an 8 yr. old bow.

Well if they used to go for that price then I might as well get it from the guy here. He used to own a pro shop but closed down. When I spoke to him about the cracks. He pulled out a box with a whole bunch of new limb sets and had 2 sets that was exactly like mine with the shadowcat decals and everything. I think I'll make him a cash offer and see what he says. After I hear from Joel at Martin.

I sent Joel an email, he has not yet gotten back to me. How long should I wait to try contact again? I don't know how busy they are.

Seing the craks, do you think there is any chance for a warranty replacement?
As stated above, Joel no longer works for Martin. I'm not sure what their email is now, so you'll have to call them. The limbs may be covered, especially if you're the original owner, but I don't know what they'll do.
