I have a 2013 alien and just ordered new strings from Hutch. I was wondering what silencers would work best for my bow and where would you recommend (string and cables or just string. I'm pretty new to this and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

I have a 2011 Fire Cat 400 (Nitro cams) that I tested with string and limb silencers with my chrono. Best results were with one monkey tails on the top and bottom cables. I didn't loss any fps with a 400g arrow; 70lbs draw weight at a draw of 29". Results were 283-285fps. The standard limb savers seem to work best on speed and vibration. Strings and cables were 8190. Hope this helps. Look over at photos I have a photo of my FC 400 and you can see were the monkey tails are, also one on my drop Limb Driver.

Nothing on my target bows. My long time hunting bow, a Hoyt MagnaTec has the bolt on Limb Savers for the limbs and nothing else. My TX4 has limb jax that came on the bow and nothing else.

Just me, deer hunting for 14 years, 37 or more deer downed, silencing is more personal preference. Only when deer are on the alert does silencing possibly help. Closest deer I ever shot never had time to flinch, about 7 yards. Longest shot of 36 yards, the looked at me the full time I drew, released and the arrow nailing him. So go figure....

I use cat whiskers and they have worked well.

Being as your bow has an STS it shouldn't take much to make it whisper quiet. Although I've used Simms products before, as said above, for the price , effectiveness, and durability you just can't beat Cat Whiskers. Just cut them down and keep them closer to the cams than you would normally some so they don't reduce speed too much.

Loosing 2 fps for quiet doesn't bother me! Cat Whiskers!

Alien=speedbow; why do you want to slow it down? If you want to quiet it down, shoot a heavier arrow. Putting whiskers or other stuff into strings with speed nocks does not make sense to me. I've done it in the past but adding 25 grains to an arrow accomplishes the same thing, or just back the limbs off a turn. Any kind of batwings will cause the string to be erratic at release and decrease both speed, maybe noise, and accuracy. Noise and Speed go together. Wonder how fast the fastest PSE is without all the fubber stuff so you can still hold it in your hand at release?

The bow came with silencers from the factory and was very quiet but they didn't hold up. when I get the new strings I wanted to keep it silent but with something that won't fly apart lol

I agree with the guys that said whiskers. I currently have them on my Firecat and they do hold up well.

cat whiskers for sure .. only thing is IM having a problem keeping them on my recurve.. I have done every glof ball type on every bow in this house and they only come off MY recurve.. I beleave there is a conspiracy going on.
put my new string on the cougar III got it all timed today, took a shot with it was suprized how quite it was only have string leaches on the cables.. nothing on the string, think I'll keep it that way

looks good Hutch.. mine came out like that on my hunting bow. and have had them look like it on the recurve.. then they sort of migrate around the string and poof they blow up.. been playing with the brace height once I get it set I well tie on a 3rd set... how many constrictor knots you puting on them? used two last time.. and one and extra knots on that the 1st.. Did them the same as the hunting rig.. Think I did ;)

I am using string material and doing 2 to 3 constrictor knots.

Yep whiskers for me too. Between them and the STS I don't need anything else.
