View Full Version : Slayer Shelf

1st off, I don't have a Martin Bow...yet. I started archery hunting to see if I liked it last year-I do and was successful so now it is time to get one of the bows I have had my eyes on for so long but want ed to make sure archery hunting was for me. I am torn between the Firecat and the Slayer and was wondering if anyone knows if you can put one of those Firecat shelves on a Slayer??? (arrow silencing shelf plate). I will be ordering the bow from my local dealer in the next few weeks since it may take a while (lefty, etc.)

I don't know. Sorry.

and now that the question is out there awaiting an answer (hopefully), will it matter???

I do not think so.. :P

Do you mean it won't matter or you don't think it will work? I am concered about sound specifically-an arrow hitting there cost me a deer last season :( I now have moleskin stuck everywhere... no more noise. Looking at the Slayer, it looked like I would have to stick more moleskin in that area. If you mean it won't work-thats different! Am still trying to decide between the 2 and am slowly leaning towards firecat due to wieght and size (i am out in the woods a LOT with my bow so it will make a difference to me.

I do not think that there is this much difference between the two arrow shelfs. I shoot a normal arrow shelf that leads to no sound i would think too much about. I do also nit think that the arrow shelf should be the reason to take not one bow. There are too many other factors. :)

yes- I know, was just wondering if I could do it... Am REALLY looking to the Firecat now though... Will likely order within the next 10 days as I need a lefty...willl surely take a while. I like the lower weight and A2A of the Firecat. For the thick woods here in the Northeast, overall bow size really matters IMO-at least when I am spot-n-stalking. Next to smell though, sound of equip. is what burnt me in the cases where I spooked them.

I was almost ready to say that all the shelf guards should be the same---for simplicity, but.............
I just compared the shelf pad on my FireCat against the one on my Pantera and they are different. The bolt holes are about 3/32" wider on the FireCat. That, plus the parts catalog only lists the new one for the FireCat and Moab. That leaves me to believe they are not interchangeable.
For anybody interested the bolt spread on the padded shelf is about
1 19/32" whereas the one on the Pantera is 1 1/2". There also might be other slight differences such as the height to wrap over the shelf itself.
Kind of sucks, don't it?

Kind of sucks, don't it?
Will tell you in about a week-10 days :) I am REALLY leaning towards the Firecat right now in which case it would not matter-I think the added weight and size of the Slayer would just be too much.

thanks everyone for your input-visited my pro dealer today, everything is set and he will be putting in the order for my Firecat (Lefty) in a week or so. He checked and current wait is 4wks + so I will have to wait quite a bit I guess for it to get over to NH...:(
*That bow is NICE though!!!

order is in... now the hard part (Waiting)... Hope lefties are next on the production line!!

Half a month gone already after Martin Estimated it would be 3-4 weeks but my bow is still in "tag made" status  Looks like I will have to use my PSE for Turkey season unless they just aren't updating the status... Had really hoped to use it for the opener but alas, it likely will not happen. I guess that means Martin is busy which is a good thing.

anton, patience my lad. The wait will be worth it. Consider, I'm a staff shooter and it takes 2 months or more for my bows to get to me. Of course mine come out of the custom shop, but still...........

Hey bfsher! Just thought I'd let you know:
I just picked up a Pantera Nitrous X custom done, and I only waited about 2 weeks!

still sitting in tag made status at this moment and I was freaking out... 3-4 wks was turning into 6-8 weeks quick... then my ever trusty dealer called me! He had been on the phone checking with them and apparently they were waiting on more risers. They now have more risers so my bow <should> go out end of next week/early following at the latest, God willing, since Turkey season opens the weekend of the earliest shipping date and the little guy was promised by papa he will take him out this year!

IT SHIPPED 3 hours and 6 minutes ago!!!!! Going to be a slow next couple of days I think!!!!! I looks like I will actually get to Turkey hunt with it!!! I can't believe it after weeks and weeks of nothing, boom, and in 2 days its done. That is great-can ya tell I am happy???

It arrived this morning and I picked her up this afternoon-awesome is all I have to say. I put about 20 arrows through it. This is arrow #7 and #8 !!
Even the Cock feathers are lined up-I had NEVER done this before and the closest I ever came was I cut some vanes with a broadhead once. For many of you this may be normal but for me it was awesome-especially with a 10 minute old new bow on my 8th arrow! I was still off at this point aim wise but was shooting pairs of arrows to get it on target. I LOVE THIS BOW-It was worth the wait!!

Congrats, Glad you are happy.
Good shootin' be proud of yourself...

Looks like you need to start shooting multiple spots. Arrows aren't cheap and the gas geting to the shop to get more arrows will eat your wallet alive.
You will have more of these, I'm sure. Save a few. After a while it gets where you shoot multiple dots.
Best robin hood I ever remember was the Pa. State Field Championships back in 1979. Was on the second day and shooting the hunter targets. First arrow went dead center X at 48 yards. Third arrow robin hooded the first and the four arrow group was only about 1 3/4". That was shooting an X7 1614. There was a day way back when I could not only see, but could shoot, too. I still have that on my trophy wall.
