question about cheetah and STS

how exactly does the 2009 cheetah accept the STS, do you need to use the mounting bracket if you have an STS not bought from martin?

There should be a hole machined into the riser just below the grip area that accepts Martin's version of the STS. There should also be another hole drilled into the side of the riser and threaded to accept a set screw to hold the STS in place.
