Ok, here's the question, I am trying to purchase a new Firecat...The Dilemma is, I found a new 08 Firecat for less than $400 The poundage is said to be 50 - 65 The listed poundage on the 09 is 50 - 70 ?? is there different limbs or what?
Can anyone explain the difference other than STS?

The main difference is the new shape as it is a tad rounder. The limbs are rounded at the end and the 09 firecat supports the new limb mount system. An STS can be added to the 08 Firecat also.

I'd take the 08 model- it is as good or better then the 09 model and you can always add the STS. 50-70# means that you can take a Firecat with draw weight from 35 to 70lbs. The particular bow has a range of 15pounds - if you take a 70#bow you can back it to 55#,if you take a 60# one it goes to 45#,etc.

The 08 Firecat comes with a STS on it and the one you are looking at was probably ordered with a specific limb deflection to get the 50 - 65# DW.

This is quite possibly true. I know I order some of my bows with limbs in the 40-55# range. I don't think you're getting some information right. That '09 FireCat doesn't go from 50-70#. What you are most likely being told is that the bow comes with maximum draw weights of 50 (35-50), 60(45-60), and 70 (55-70). These are the standard weight ranges over the counter.

As mentioned, the main difference between '08 and '09 is that whereas the '08 model has square limb butts they are rounded on the '09. This was just an aesthetic change. The limbs are the same in every other respect.

One other change in '09 wass the change from a cable rod/slide to the CCS (roller guard). IMO, having both, I like the old rod/slide myself. There is no perceptable difference in performance.

Both bows should have Stone Mt. strings so that's a wash. Both should have the STS, again nothing changed there.

If you ask me, I'd pay attention to the cam lean on the '08 and if it checks out OK I'd save the difference between them and buy some top-notch accessories.
