Just bought a new 2008 (leftover) Slayer X with the M-Pro cam setup. How can I tell what limbs are on this bow?

13" Super Mag.
There will be a deflection # written on the edge at the limb butt.
5H, 3L, 7M, 4H, etc...

It reads 3H and has a 6.25 brace height with an ATA length of 36.75". What do I have???

Also, can someone tell me what the difference would be on a 2008 Slayer X using the 13" Super Magnum limbs vs. the 14" Magnum limbs? Assume both would be using set up with the M-Pro cam...

Can't get into the spec charts for 2008, however it has specs similar to the 2009 Warthog so 3H should give you about 70#. As for th rest of the specs it's a guessing game. The Slayer was manufactured with Cat cams which are maybe going to give different specs than the M-pro. With the M-Pro it was most likely a custom order job.

The main difference you'll see with 14" limbs is about 2" longer ATA and taller brace height. Also, but just a guess, you'd have to use something like a 4H or 5H limb to get the same draw weight.

The MPro cam is not the norm. most Slayer Xs came with C.A.T. cams with
14" limbs in 08

Bfisher, we were typing at the same time, so mine is out of order.

Is 3H the correct designation for the 13" Super Mag limbs? Also, does anyone know if there is an IBO speed rating on this configuration - 08' Slayer X with M-Pro and 13" Super Mag limbs?

No IBO rating that I know of. Maybe LeEarl over on AT would have some info. I know he does a lot of tinkering and may have done this.

Roger, you're not out of order. Your posts are as welcome as mine or anybody else's. Keep 'em coming bud.

I have an older SlayR with 14" 5H limbs and the M-Pro cam. It is silky smooth and smokes them just fine! It is a 70# bow...hopes this helps.

Are you sure it is a 2008? The 2007 Slayer came with either nitrous or MPro cams. The riser is almost identical to the 2008, although someone with better knowledge of the Slayer will probably be able to tell you how to tell the difference. The catalog sheets for the 2007 slayer states that the two cams came with different limbs; 13" super mag for the MPro and 14" mag for the nitrous, but I'm not sure that is correct. The spec sheet at the link below does indicate that the stock ATA is more than an inch longer for the nitrous cams than for the MPro cams which would be one result of having longer limbs.

Anyway, check out the link below and maybe someone can chime in with a way to check the serial number for the model year of this bow. I'd bet a beer at the pub that you just bought a 2007 model.

One other thing to note: The 2008 slayer had the reinforced limbs designed for the CAT cams. They have what look like little rivits going through each of the two tips at the end of the limb. I hope that makes sense.

Limbs do have the reinforcing rivits at the end of each limb that you mentioned. Other than that, not sure how else to determine if it's truly a 2008?

Also, the M-Pro cam on my Slayer has a draw stop peg which I believe was new on 2008 vs. the 2007 and later...

You are correct. Only way it's a 2007 is if somebody got the cams and limbs later on. Did you get the bow used? Draw stop and reinforced limbs didn't come on the scene till 2008 and the reinforced limbs didn't come standard with the MPro.

Just bought it new as a 2008 left over from a Martin dealer.

I've been shooting my 08' Slayer X with 13" super magnum limbs & M-Pro cam now for a few weeks and I like it very much. I'f in the future I want to set this up with Nitrous cams (if I can find them), can I do it with the 13" (3H) limbs I have on the bow now?

Sure you can, all the Slayers from 2005-2007 cams with 14" limbs and C base Nitrous cams, I have a 05 that is a sweet shooter.

Roger, you may have missed this, but my Slayer does in fact have 13" super magnum limbs, not the 14". So is the Nitrous still OK with 13" limbs?

Yes, the 13" limbs will work fine, I know guys that have 13"s on there Slayers, and they shoot great.

As I may have mentioned, at this point I'm mostly exploring my options, but if I did go with the Nitrous cams, what lind of speed increase do you think I'd get from it as speed would be the only reason for me to do this? At 65#, 29.5 DL with a 358gr arrow, I'm now getting 285 fps with my current M-Pro set up and the draw is smooth.
