View Full Version : Difference between 04 and 05 Slayr??

I looked at the past catalogs and I'm confused as to what exactly changed. Can anyone fill me in?
Would a bow#04279XX be an 04?

Mostly just a lighter riser so they could shed about 8oz. from the mass weight. I had a 2004, first Martin I ever owned. It was a shooter and a real speedster, but it was like a boat anchor. Still, one of the better bows I've ever owned---and I've had a few in 36 years.

Thanks for the reply. I started this thread before I registered.
Looking at the catalogs, it appears the major riser change was between 05-06 models, when they came out with the extreme.
I'm wondering what changed in 05 when the SE designation was added to the catalog. The 04 catalog listed the limb type as magnum. The string and cable charts are the same for both years.

The various designations (logos) you see on limbs doesn't mean anything. For instance, in the years you are asking about they had both SE and Magnum limbs. The limbs were identical. Just little changes to the name for marketing pruposes. The limbs were 14" at the time. If you had a bow with 14" straight limbs they were all the same.
I think it was 2006 the Slayer Extreme was offered and you could choose between 14" limbs and the new 13" "super magnum" limbs. Now the 13" is just about the standard on most of their bows. Here again, if you have a bow with 13" limbs there is no difference between a Gold Series or a Por Series bow.
Now, all that being said, limbs for 2010 are a changin (redisigned).

So, are you saying there was no change between the 04 and 05 Slayrs?

Essentially NO. If memory serves me right the main difference was the machining of the riser that allowed Martin to shave about 10 oz. off the mass weight.
I think the 2005 model retained the Nitrous cams. Still had 14" limb and 14" limbs are 14" limbs, regardless of whether they have Slayer, Magnum, or whatever logo is on them.

Fisher your right, my 05 is just like my buddy's 04 every thing is the same, but mine is lighter, back then they were a SlayR, not Slayer.
