Hey All,
I have been hanging around quite awhile but this is my first post. I need some opinions. I have been shooting an 09 Cheetah since august and really love this bow however I am vertically challenged at 5'8' and only have a 27" draw so it is accrurate but not as fast as I want. I have the need for speed. I have the opportunity to get an 08 Slayer X with CAT cams and 55-70# limbs for $470 or an 09 Warthog with 50-65# limbs for $525. Ye olde wise sages of the Martin bow please weigh in and give me some pros, cons, and opinions on what would be a better choice.

I like my warthog really well. And its fast. Also it will shoot way better than i am able to hold it.

go with the warthog, as far as i know, some of the slayers had limb problems, but im not sure, but i would go with the warthog, as that is an awesome price for an '09!

I agree the price is good on the Warthog. The slayer X is in the brushed platinum finish so it is not the best for a hunting rig, the warthog is camo. I am leaning toward the warthog however the odd limbs perplex me. Why would it have 50-65# limbs instead of the 55-70#. the only benefit I see in that for me is that I would put the CCS on it and that would make them 70#+ with the added pre load. I also have an opportunity at an 09 Firecat for $500 that i am also thinking about.

I'm not sure whether you can install the CCS on a Warthog-more likely not, but still for 525$ it's a good deal. If the bow is in a good shape i'd take it.

Cost NIB 08 Slayer X for $470 or NIB 09 Warthog for $525 or NIB 09 Firecat for $500

All things being equal

70# draw weight
27" draw
358 gr arrow
peep and d loop on string
properly tuned

Which bow do you think would yield the best speed?

If all you want to know about is speed, the Warthog and the SlayerX will be faster then the firecat, the longer ATA will do that.

Using the backcountry bowhunting speed calculator the slayer X would likely yield 315 fps or so
The Firecat 310 fps
The Warthog only 305 due to the 65# limbs whereas the other two have 70# max limbs

$500 for an 09 Firecat seems high to me. I had my 09 Firecat ordered last Jan. for $445.

Yes but you said (all things being equal) that means they would all have #70 Limbs, that is why I said the SlayerX and the Warthog would be faster.

Honestly you can do better on the price of the Slayer. I just bought a brand new 08 Slayer off of AT for $275 shipped. Both are good bows. The Warthog price is decent.
