View Full Version : What does everyone think of my arrow speed?

I have just put all my specs into an arrow speed calculator and it tells me that the speed of my 07 Jaguar(IBO: 310 fps, Arrow weight: 420 grains approx., draw length: 27.5, draw weight: 62lb. approx.) is approx. 238.4fps. So I am wondering, is this a good or bad speed for this bow? This of course is my hunting setup. Also, does my custom string with less strands make the bow faster?

With that heavy of a arrow 238.4fps. is very good speed, and yes a string with less strands can make a bow faster, but it depends on the string material.

I have a BCY 8125 string on my bow.

BCY 8125 is one of the fastest strings you can get, so yes with that string less strands is faster. and it is the string I use more then any other.

I have the same bow with stock string 27" draw set at 68lbs
383grain arrow has string spiders tube peep shoots 255 fps

your arrow is 37gr lighter and you have 6lb more draw weight, and your only 17fps faster, that much arrow weight is a lot.

Not to get off subject but just upgraded to a 2010 firecat tr2 pro x
27.5 set at 60 lbs same arrows 383 gr gets same speed as my other one.
At 8lbs less draw weight.

You might want to wrap your cams up a little more, even with that heavy
of a arrow I think you might get more then that, you don't need that heavy of a arrow not in the lower 48.

I can see a few reasons as to why your Jaguar isn't much faster than mine. For starters, you have a stock string. I have a BCY 8125 string, and as RogerSr said it is faster than stock. Second, you have string silencers which slows down the string a few FPS. I have a custom made STS, so I have no silencers. Third, even though this is a small reason, your draw length is a half-inch shorter than mine. Put all those reasons with your 383 grain arrow, and that should be why your bow isn't much faster.

I wasn't complaining about my bow being fast or slow the deer that I've shot have been complete pass throughs at 30 yards!! I know that my bows can be faster with lighter arrows and no junk on the strings was just giving some info to compair with. Thank you for the comments I did step to a faster bow but not changing my arrows but shooting less draw weight.

I forgot to mention that the kinetic energy of my arrow is approx. 54.9 ft. lbs. According to the calculator, this is in the large game category! So I guess I won't have to worry about penetration when I'm deer hunting!:D

+1. Even with the same arrow, a little fine tuning should bring it up about 10fps.
