Help.

I bought a Scepter II off ebay listed for $115 listed with 29" draw. I figured for $115 it could be a fun project. The draw length was perfect when I took it out of the box. The split strings and bow string need replacement.

1. The Fury-X cams are marked 2X which would indicate a 30" draw not 29".
2. The split strings measure 43" but the cam guide on Martin's site say they should be 44".

Should the split strings be 44"?

Can I use 43" split strings?

I appreciate any help.
Thanks.

How long is the shooting string? Does your bow have 17" recurve limbs or 16" straight limbs? I can understand shortening the shooting string to lower the draw lenght from 30" to 29" but not the cables.

Actually 2x will give you a DL of 31".

ok...so it looks like if it were a 2001 it should have a DL of 31" and if it were a 2002 it should have a DL of 30"

Why would there be a difference between 2001 and 2002?

What affect does the shorter split string have on DL?

What negative effect did the previous owner create by shortening the split string?

Any reason I shouldn't use the 43" split string?

The chart I told you to look up just shows the draw lenght for the Fury Cam. The draw lenght is 1" longer on the same number Fury X Cam.

Try this Cam and Limb chart and you will umderstand.

http://www.martinarchery.com/2010web/chart/2001chart/fury_cam-limb.html

But I don't understand how shortening the cables shortened the draw lenght. It should of shortened the ATA and raised the braceheight and lenghten the draw lenght and puting more stress in the limbs raising the poundage.

hmm...i guess at this point I'm not sure which length split string to buy

i know that with the shorter split string the draw length is maxed out and perfect for me....but i'm still not sure if there is a negative effect to having a shorter than designed split string

If you like the ATA, Braceheight and Draw lenght with the 43" Cables. And the limbs are not showing any adverse effects from being over stressed with the shorter cables then I guess the 43" cables are not going to hurt.

Yjou do know that the draw enghts shown in the charts is the AMO Draw lenght. That is if you draw an arrow that is 30" long the tip of it will just come to the back of the riser, the side away from you. There is no way that the configuration you have is going to give you a 29" AMO draw lenght.

Sounds like the previous owner might have put on a shorter cable and shorter string to get the draw length down and increase the poundage. If your happy with both then get the same cable. If not then get the 44" cable and a longer string. Btw, what is the factory spec for the string?

That's what is confusing everything. The bow has the correct string on it. 58"
