What is around the top of your quiver - or is that just an optical delusion ?

E-man
02-09-2012, 10:56 AM
Actually that is a shoestring that i keep on there so if there is not a trusty branch to hang my quiver on i can tie it to my stand or a nearby branch. i don't shoot with my quiver on because it pulls my bow over and i think it robs some accuracy. i try to think of everything :)

While recovering from rotator cuff repair surgery this past fall and winter I had the time to do some upgrades on my ole reliable. I decided to get some Loesch grip side plates, upgrade the sight from the HHS slider to a DS Advantage with HHA Pro scope and designed and made a new quiver mounting bracket to move the quiver back, up and closer to the riser (somewhat like a Tight Spot). The upper STS I made earlier is still in use as well as my home-made TRG and Saunders cable slide.

Hey rocky i like the quiver mount bracket that is pretty cool i see you put a limb saver on it was it vibrating or is that just for precaution?

Rockyhud
06-10-2012, 03:47 PM
Hey Lungbuster, thanks for the compliment. I put the limbsaver on as a precaution. I didn't really notice any noise coming from it but I'm kinda anal about vibes and noise - if there is any I'll try to locate and eliminate or at least minimize it and I like to be proactive and prevent it from the start too. My first quiver mount was made from 1/8" aluminum and it wasn't nearly stiff enough and allowed the quiver and shafts to vibrate just handling the bow and during the shot. The mount I have on now is made from 1/4" aluminum and is much stiffer. I used the upper STS mount I made some time ago as the attachment point for the mount and found the junction of the upper and middle parts of the riser to be a pretty good location for the mount - the mounting plate sets nice and secure in the rounded area and I made curved reliefs in the underside to help it self-align into position as I tightened the bolt down. The final piece is pretty simple but it did take me a couple of prototype iterations to get it right and make it simple.

This is my new-to-me '08 Martin Bengal. A relative gave me a great deal on it. It's in great shape, and is a pleasure to shoot. The string leeches are gonna go. The top one broke two points off. I picked up some cat whiskers tonight, and will put them on. I picked up a Kiwikee Kwiver, too.

My son bought me a new sight for the bow. It has a longer extension then my last one (which I prefer). He got me an Apex Accu strike pro 5 pin (.019pins) tool-less and a micro light. Sweet! single pin to a 5 pin cool. First shot bulls eye. ya Hoooooooooooo! Still have to sight the rest of the pins but very happy!!

a beautiful Hutch string, with whiskers and d loop, limb savers
quick tune rest, and a little moleskin to keep a misloaded arrow a little quieter

Thanks Hutch,I killed alot of deer and shot quite a few 3D shoots in the late 80s to mid 90s,burned myself out on archry and quit completely for over a decade.I'm getting back into archery now with my 10yo son,we go bowhunting together but my 1st priority is to get him a shot,I take my bow just in case dad needs to show him how its done.lol

ive always thought about breaking out my dads old white tail hunter, or the original martin cougar, and trying to kill a deer with it, but then i realize how hard it already is to even see a deer much less from my deerstand, during season, while im hunting......

That is a great pic & an underrated bow! Underwood is packing more than one Martin though!

Duel draw stops & adjustable brace....hmmm, bet Hoyt snags the adjustable BH soon enough.

Well folks I have been out of the archery scene for about 10 years now and just stepping back into it. I have received a 2014 Martin Nemesis and all I can say is WOW. Smooth, quiet, fast and still forgiving and best of all light. This is the first bow that I have not felt the need to paper tune as the initial setup was spot on just using a square and center gauge. For years all I have shot was Hoyt from field archery to competitive 20 yard indoor and 3d. I have always looked at Martin bows and appreciated their quality and innovation but having a Hoyt dealer 1 mile down the road made Hoyt the easy answer. A short known but very trusted friend thought I needed a new Martin bow so he sent me one in the mail. From ripping the box open to amazing myself with consistent shot strings in the back yard out to 40 yards I am re hooked on archery. This new bow has re kindled my desire to get back into shooting even if it is back yard for now. This coming winter I may compete once again in 20 yard indoor. I think it is one cool bow and I am very proud of it and grateful to my friend for thinking so much of me. This bow will be with me for many years. Thanks Command Sgt Major, God speed and SemperFi.

Thanks I like it a lot. Every time I pull it back I get a smile on my face because it is so smooth. I am amazed with the speed and efficiency of the bow for having such a generous brace height. All I need to do is get re acquainted with my old form and I will be doing fine. I have become so weak over the past ten years.
