Baby? At 41 1/2 inches? Had to hang it near the ceiling to get it all in and had to brace it. Had to cut down the pic and reduce the size to 411 for width and this took part of the Cartel 30" stab length off  and then the floroscent green doesn't show in the strings

Many people didn't know that Martin has had a lot of designs. Split limbs are one of many Martin has had. I guess you can say Martin has been there and done that. Even some of the speeds that Martin had long before the other companies. I guess that is why I have stayed with the Martin line.

Hutch, After selling my 1st one, I found this one on the AT classifieds, it was on its 3rd owner, he said it wouldn't tune. After a few pm's I pretty much knew what the problem was and bought it really cheap. I did a complete tear down, corrected the problems, built a new set of strings and set it up. 1st shot through paper was perfect. It'll shoot fixed blade BH's right with field points. I really love this bow.......:D

Hutch~n~Son Archery
02-08-2011, 04:47 AM
I had a martin altitude a few years back. It was only 30 3/8" long. But for what ever reason once that bow was tuned I was hitting well out at 60, 70 , 80 yards. Little brace height short bow but really accurate. So if the bow fits keep it. I usually never buy a new bow. I shop for the deals like you did. And it helps being left handed. I can get good deals. But just the same you have a sharp looking bow. enjoy!

I found that to be true, BUT in my area at least, there's also a poor selection of lefty's bows to try or buy.
That was part of the reason I've kept my '96 Firecat for so many years. Well that and it shoots really well, and has been super reliable.

If you can post some pics we could help better. BUT, on the limb sticker the first two numbers of the serial number is the year of manufacture. You could also get on Martin's website and look at some of the older catalogs for comparison. The Nitrous cams were made from 2004-2007, so that should help narrow things down.

I am going to try to get pics posted tomorrow. The archery shop that I frequent said that they have never worked on a bow such as mine before. The true dual cam, as well as having to nock the arrows thru the cables instead of on one side of them. He doesn't have much experience with Martins, so he couldn't tell me too much.

elkslayer4x5
02-22-2011, 07:29 AM
Yep, if your cams look like these, then you've got Nitrous cams, The 1st pair are B cams and the 2 pair with out the modules are C cams, note the second hole in the cam is larger in the C's than it is in the B's. :)

Here is a picture of one of the cams. They both have the letter "B" on them. This is also the sticker on it. It looks to be a 2005. After reading the posts, and looking online, I believe these are the nitrous cams. Does anybody have a rough estimate as to how much this would be worth? It has normal wear and tear, but is in good shape. I shoot it at least twice a week without issue, waxing the string every other shoot or so.

Not quite. If I remember right there were bows with FuryX cams and the more recent FuriousX. The way us Martin folks play around switching parts it could have been any of them. BUTm those are definitely Nitrous--the best cam system ever brought out in my book.

Just looked at spekwa66's picture and the value of those cams has dropped drastically. Looks like a rusty screw to me---LOL.

spekwa66
02-23-2011, 06:07 PM
Thats what you get when you hunt hard I guess. Didn't think a screw like that would effect the value of the cam itself. Shouldn't be too hard to replace. Still, any estimate to worth?

You are correct.
Martin introduced the original Fury cam in the mid-90's. It was a traditional hatchet-style dual cam. A year or so later they introduced the Fury-x cam with the dual tracks. This was patented by Jimmy Despart, a Martin pro staffer from the northeast. Both of these models were draw length specific and had no modules. In the 2000's, they introduced the Nitrous cams. These are the ones in the photos above and featured the adjustable draw length modules. A few years back they introduced the final version of this cam called the Furious cam. All of the shoot-thru cams (Fury-x, Nitrous, Furious) have the 4 cables and 1 string.

My AlienZ at 60lbs has 155 deflection numbers on them

Ah - so it came with Barnsdales!!
I am just curious as to wether the new Ryteras are all coming with Barnsdales or if in fact they are using Martins new power tough limbs and if so - what limb #'s on the Martins are being used for 50,60 etc...
All the '11's I've heard of so far are still using the Barneys. :D

Brem

Per Joel the Ryteras will continue to go out with Barnsdales on them until the inventory is depleted then they will have the Powertoughs

Since you're pretty new to all of this, you may as well start collection archery links, and heres two for you. Total up your arrow weight, estimate how much weight is on your string and enter them in the proper box.

http://www.backcountrybowhunting.com/articles/tools.php

Now you need to know what your bows IBO speed is, lets see, you've got an 04 Jaguar, so we'll take look at a comparison chart for 2004,

http://www.huntersfriend.com/2007-Bow-Reviews/bow-reviews-2004-specifications-all.htm

Looks like the 04 Jaguar Nitrous clocked 310 fps. :D

on my 08 Firecat. I just got some new stuff from 3Rivers Archery today. Among them were the musk ox wool string silencers and fletch cover. I'm anxious to see if these silencers make it even quieter than the Limb Saver string leaches I used before. I got the fletch cover after one of the guys I hunted elk and bear with last year said my flo-orange wraps caught his eye from across a small canyon as I was moving through a small opening in the oak brush I was hunting in. He said he really didn't see me well - just the bright color wraps caught his eye.

I have only ever known Martin and only ever shot Cheetahs, so I would like to stick with the brand because it is what I know and I love the versatility that they offer with the "no-press" capability and performance is right up there in my opinion. I think the new one might be a year or 2 down the road and I'm sure there will be bigger and better things at that time, but having a 2010 in 2012 is going to be just like me having a 2008 in 2011...and I don't have a single thing to complain about my 08....

Got the Onza's back from Loesch. Mine is the black, my younger son's is the camo (and lefty). I picked up my Onza because I wanted a bow to shoot 3-d at lower poundage and keep my hunting bow, an '03 AR-31, intact. My boy decided he liked my Onza, so he bought one and did the opposite - set it up as his hunting bow and kept his Admiral set up for 3-d. These are our first Martins. The wife shoots an Alpine Sienna (another lefty), and the older boy shoots a Bowtech TomKat. The older boy is in the Navy, so his shooting life is on hold.
I thank the folks on this forum for sharing their problems, and their fixes, for the Onza's. It gives me things to look for, and things to incorporate right off the bat (ie. brass set screws in the limb barrels).

Your TRG rod goes all the way thru. That is the first Onza I seen that did that. I thought they were captured in the front?

Second, your peep is tied in around the peep but you have no serving above or below the peep. Is that how you normally do it?

Hutch:cool:

Thanks Hutch, Sorry about the drool thing. I think I like this bow a little better than the Nem I had last year. Seems to balance and hold a little better than the Nem I had last year and the speed is very close to what I got out of the Nem.

Jim

Your TRG rod goes all the way thru. That is the first Onza I seen that did that. I thought they were captured in the front?

Second, your peep is tied in around the peep but you have no serving above or below the peep. Is that how you normally do it?

Mark, The only bow I've gotten in so far this year that the slot wasn't machined all the way through is a Silencer I just got in about 2 weeks ago. The other Onzas I've had in here are the same as this one.

I will also normally serve above and below on a customers bow so they can adjust peep rotation some and I will serve right where the split in the string starts and ends with tension on the string. The angle of the pic makes the peep appear to be at an angle, but it is actually straight and comes straight back to my eye during the draw so I saw no reason to serve above and below since this is my own bow.

And before anyone asks........that is a RedEye peep and no.....I haven't had any problems with them cutting my string. My eyesight is really bad and this peep does help clear up the sight picture a little better then a standard peep.

I can see why its a nice bow I like its look! It also looks very stable and smooth.

I was just about to ask the same... is that teflon tape or something? And how do you like the bowjax string jax?

Great looking bow and I agree the Onza holds really well!

Was wondering how long it would take someone to notice the TRG. Yes, that is teflon fletching clamp tape and so far it seems to be working pretty well at reducing the amount of premature wear/discoloartion on the down cable, without the need of special waxes or waxing all the time.
There was a period back in the 90's during the transition from steel to synthetic cables where certain companies were foregoing the use of a slide and just letting the cables ride on the rod, some of these companies were applying a teflon tape to the rod in order to reduce the wear on the synthetic cables.

wabbit, I like the BowJax products real well, they are all I use on my own stuff and all I stock in the shop.

Mark, The peep locks above and below can be used to make minor adjustments to peep rotation. By sliding the locks up or down you will wrap the strands toward or away from the peep and alter the rotaion of the peep somewhat

But that was a beautiful trip through a Martin wonderland of bows....MAN!!!
Needed that because I am really caught on Martin bows and I keep wondering if that is a lone illness or malady as when I am on AT or in a Pro Shop I am bombarded with Hoyt or Matthews, PSE or BowTech and I just love the Martins and Ryteras....let me check my temperature again

It is a monster bow, no longer in business, merged with area 5150 bows, they carry parts for them now. The bow weighs about 4 1/2#.

A rare beast. I had the second one to be sent to the UK, but like all the Oneida's I have owned, it did not quite suit me, so it went to a new home up in the North of England.

Here are my latest additions, a Merlin Excalibur 40 and an Athens Excell.

I have not shot either of them very much yet, as the Merlin needed a new string and the Excell only arrived on Friday.

The Merlin seems like a very nice bow, and well put together. The things I don't likes are: The finish on the limbs (not the limbs themselves), which is glossy, but appears to be a little fragile, as it has quite a number of chips along the edges, probably caused by a clip on bow stand. I also don't like the fact that all the allen screws are British sizes, as all my archery tools are American sizes.

The bow is fast, quiet, accurate, dead in the hand and light and I think it will probably be my winter comps bow.

The Excell is something else again.....WOW! is all I have to say at present.
