On an older (around 92) martin bow. Here are some pictures, as I have no idea what kind of bow it even is. I got it as a kid.

What does the piece of wood above the grip say?

It says Martin, and has what looks like a bengal tiger on it.

That is a Martin M-1 Tiger. It utilizes a Lyns Magnum riser but features simpler, round tri-draw wheels.

Hey, thanks a million for the info, it's really appreciated. I'd like to set it up for my wife to shoot, and it needs a new string. I got a 36" string put on, but I can tell it's too long. Would it be possible to find out what the string and cable specs for this bow are? Again, thanks, I've been wondering for a long time what it was.

The string is either a 34" or 35" depending on her draw length. The cable is a little more complicated. Your best bet would be to go to a dealer who is familiar with recabling older bows and get it done right. Hope that helps you out.

I've got the same bow (M1 Tiger), but do not have the manual for it. Where can I get a manual?

In 2005 the Tiger was an adults bow. ;)
