One thing I have learned is, if you know what calls to use, and use them at the right time, then and only then do they become effective.

I use the MADD calls three in one grunt, bleat and snort wheez and I kill at least one if not two bucks a year during the rut! Swear by it! I bow hunted Ohio zaleski state park this year during the rut and I brought in 5 different bucks with that call in a four day period just none were shooters!

Don't know if it's considered a call but it works great.

Read a very interesting article over here in a mag. about calls and how deer in a group can differentuate between various individuals in that group, and how they respond to calls from older stags as compared to younger ones. Generally the younger stag calls got the most response but it was as 'lets flee' reaction rather than bringing them up closer to the caller. With such perception it may be counter productive to use the calls.

I used a old grunt call on a nice 6 pointer, pulled it away from a doe and it jumped a fence, got within 35-40yds of me but i never got a shot off.Did work though.

Bought my son one for Christmas a couple years ago. He likes it and thinks it's easier to pack than horns.
