Definitely different then the easterns; I think Merriam's are the best looking sub-species.

Wow, that is really cool. The birds definitely look different than our eastern birds.

    Thanks all.

Rockyhud, it was a really good show, but it came after I shot. 4 toms and a jake came through right after, the jake found my dead bird and was pecking at it behind the 2 strutters.

Very nice accomplishment. Those birds look like they really put on a show for you before you put the hammer down.

Mamba is 45lbs at my 28" DL. I'm shooting Maxima Hunter 250s cut to 30" with a 50 grain brass insert and 150 grain heads, 4" shield cut feathers and shooting off the shelf. Feathers were covered with blood in the pic.

    Thanks.

First Recurve Turkey and First Merriam's with My Martin

Took a long ride to hunt Merriam's back in Western Nebraska after getting my trip cut short by a freak April blizzard last year. The DSD jake brought him close and I made a good shot at 6 yds, he ran jumped through a fence and went down in less than 40 yds; the 150 grain Snuffer worked great and the short Martin Mamba handles nice in the blind.

Had more birds come in and could have had a double but at $91 I held off on a second tag, so I took some pics instead.

Headed to Kansas next for some Rios, season opens Tuesdsay, April 1.
