Thank you, Arrow Splitter. I guess it would depend on the size of game, but I've field dressed many deer with just a folding pocket knife. Virtually all skinning can be done with just one good sharpened knife. Where some don't know, fat and tiny meat tissue clog the knife edge. I keep a bowl of hot water nearby and a clean cloth to help clean and wipe the edge.
Most edges roll to give what is thought a knife needing sharpened. Here, I've used the polished part of a breaker bar, smooth chromed steel and even a glass jar to roll the edge straight. My former boss and his bleeding arm can attest to this. He had a small Buck single blade pocket knife that he thought dull. But a few swipes on my breaker bar he then proceeded shave hair from his arm and then blood came. Later, he told me he field dressed and completely skinned his deer with it.
This has field dressed everything from Brookies to Elk...
