    Default Scouting trip

Went out scouting after work tonight. Lotsa bucks, now just have to figure out how to get one. They are on a very small reserve the fields are off limits to hunt but where I took the pictures from they are fair game. Season opens August 8th. Some very nice bucks in the group. The deer in the foreground are 70-90 yarsd, the deer in the background are about 250 yards. I have a good camera now. I quit counting at 25 with horns. There were more in the trees on the other side of the field.

Those deer are safe and they know it.
I had a great encounter today with a 3x4 right at dusk. Seen him and a doe enter a cut alfalfa field about 1/4 mile from where I was glassing. Didn't want to spook them with the truck so I took off through an adjoining corn field. When I came out I was in line with them at 255 yards. The wind was in my favor so I started after them in an almost open field that had been cut once and had 2nd growth about a foot high. I had irrigation rows between me and them every 50 yards and was using that for cover. When I got within 100 yards the cover got alot smaller so I started crawling. At 70 yards I popped my head up slowly to verify location and the doe busted me. In the meantime the buck had layed down. She took two bounces and he stood up broad side at 71 yards.
I knew the gig was up and didn't push them so I let them walk out of the field because I plan on setting a blind on the edge of the field and didn't want to blow them out into the next county. I don't feel comfortable with a shot over 50 yards either. I was hopeing to get 35-40 yards and start the party. ZGonna try the blind tomorrow night.
