How to properly install martin sts.

Without the screw tightened it has quite a bit of play because it doesn't go into my riser very far at all. Right now i have the sts touching the string should i back it off of the string so the rod can go a little bit farther into the riser?

Touching the string or a credit card width away. Depends on the bow. Which ever works the best. A quick tip would be to use a piece of scotch tape on the rod to use as a filler to tighten up the slack. If that is not thick enough use electrical tape.
