    Default Tagged out...

Well this is my first time tagging out for archery season in WI...I actually have one doe tag left I can use for gun or bow, but I am gonna save that for gun season, even though extra anterless tags are only 2$ (there are 5 of us in our immediate family that hunt 5 tags X 5 people = up to 25 deer)...

Anyways, the story? I brought my climber, and was just gonna do some scouting for late season bow hunting and muzzleloader season on the public land just down the road. I never see deer on the public, although there are trails and tracks everywhere...Well I walked about 50 yards into the woods, found a heavily used trail, and shimmied my way up a tree 16 yards off the trail. 20 minutes after getting settled in, This little feller walked out...first deer i have ever seen on this land, when i first seen him walking down the trail, I thought it was a big doe...but as he got closer, i could see the antlers...Knowing my luck on this property, i decided to shoot him, fill my buck tag, and call it a season with the bow. Well he walked behind the big oak I wanted him to, I drew back the Warthog, and he stepped out offering me a perfect broadside shot-16 yards like I wanted. So I let the 405 grain Easton FMJ go, and watched the lighted nock bury behind his shoulder...as he jumped, I could see the little nock glowing behind him and the arrow burried half way up in the dirt...He took 2 leaps, looked around, and did the ol' sway side to side thing. Awesome, I shot him at 16 yards, and he died 35 yards from me...and all from an 85 grain Magnus Buzzcut stinger...Who says you need the big mechanicals to kill deer? shot placement fellas, shot placement...

    Dressed at 162 lbs...not bad for a 1 1/2 year old!!!
3rd deer of the year for the Warthog.
