Relieving pressure off of a string.

Today i finally decided to fix my idler wheel cam lean. i unscrewed the limbs probably eight full turns and there was still too much pressure on the string to remove one of the strands of the y cable. I didnt feel comfortable unscrewing it anymore so i found if i twisted the cam i could relieve enough pressure to remove the cable. Even though i didnt feel comfortable unscrewing it anymore, i still had plenty of bolt left. I am getting a string in from hutch tuesday so i will have to take everything off of the bow again. My question is, if i continue to unscrew the limb bolts will they eventually release all of the string pressure without busting apart? Thanks.

Hey Ch, looking at the riser you will see the barrel nuts in the riser. Unscrew the limb bolts till you see the end of the bolts. Nothing will happen it is designed that way.

OK so it wont damage the bolts or anything because it was at a strange angle. And when it is backed all the way to where i can see the ends will the string will be able to come off easily?

i always put a couple of drops of the light remington gun oil on the threads in the barrel nut before i start unscrewing the bolt . on a single cam bow you should be able to loosen them enough to get the string and cable off without any problems. twin cams you have to press them a little, or anyway i do !

Yea i figured that out today lol. Without oil they can be pretty tough to move.

When I got my string/cables from Hutch L needed to turn the bolts about 10 turns to work with it easily but could manage at eight. Since then got a portable bow press to do adjusments.

On older Martin's, I was always able to loosen the limb bolts enough to get the string/cables completely slack. I haven't been able to do that with their newer bows though. What I do is loosen them as far as I can safely, then turn the cams by hand and use a wooden dowel through the cam resting on the limbs to keep slack in the harness. Probably not the best idea around, but it's worked for me so far. lol
