    Default oneida archery????

so i read a post on here talking about oneida archery. having never heard of them, i decided to check them out. a crazy looking bow indeed, very expensive, and claiming the smoothest draw on the market. My question is what kind of speed do these bows produce. and why is this the only cazy looking bow on the market. i know ted nugent shot them in the past. their website doesnt mention speed at all, so this leads me to think these are slow bows, the sites only hunting pictures are of bowfishing, yet the owner of the company is called the whitetail wizard

Hey dzsmith, I know one of the owners of shop in Maine. He is a oneida bow specialist. He wanted me to produce strings for his new company American Eagle Bows. He is not up and running yet. But with the style of strings they wanted I am sure it is not a fast bow. But I believe Nutty Native can tell us better because he owns one.

I would love to have one for bowfishing. I always see them on Ebay and AT.

Right you are Hutch. Oneida bows are simply the smoothest drawing bow most have ever drew back. I have a Black Eagle I and my issue is the noise. I have done everything possible to quiet it and it is considerably quieter but not where I want it. I've been told to shoot arrows in the 500-600 grain range but don't want to sacrafice speed. I shoot a 425 gr arrow somewhere around 250fps range.
Last year I bought the Kestrel and with the same arrow was at 285fps out of the box with no tuning. After setting it up and dialing it in, I went to 292 with 72% let off. The let off on these bows feel VERY different than the traditional compound. Feels like your only holding 5-10 pounds. Because of the tip to tip length they make awesome target bows, and alot of people shoot fingers with them because of the smooth draw and let off.
These are a unique bow for sure and are almost like buying a pet bird???? When you buy a bird you let the bird "choose" you. I have found that it's the same with these. Over the past year and a half I have owned 7 Oneidas. They all shot great, some were noiser than others, but the only one I was truly happy with was an older Black Eagle II. I had a 92 Aeroforce, 2 Black Eagles 02 & 04, a 2011 Kestrel, a 2010 Extreme Eagle, a custom 05 Hawk, and the 04 Black Eagle II.
I have a sickness / weakness with these or a love-hate relationship. I love the mid evil looks and the features, but can't get past the noise. I should just shoot it for what it is and be happy, but keep comparing everything to my Bowtech Guardian. It is easier for right hand shooters to pick one up fairly cheep just to try. The older pylon / wheeled ones require a little more work and attention then the K-cam bows. I'm on vacation or I would post a few pics for ya.

comparing their statistics to their price i cannot say that i will ever own one, especially if they are kind of slow and noisy. no way. but they look awesome and im sure they are fun to shoot.

They are a wickedly cool bow and definatly fun to shoot.

Right handers can usually pick up a used Black Eagles for around $400. The Aeroforce is also a very good bow that can be had somewhere around $250. I recommend everyone to at least shoot one if they can just for the experience. They are not necessarily slow but won't hit the 300 fps mark without alot of custom work. I'm spoiled with quiet bows but I did have a BE II that was significantly quieter than most Oneidas. All of the Oneida's I have owned have been over 250 fps but a little louder than I wanted.
I'm thick headed and refuse to believe the only to quiet them is to shoot an arrow 75+grains more than you want to or lower the draw weight. Both will work but both will also be slower. You can also play around with the let off modules for comfort, speed, and draw length.
