Closer to the tip. This is what we refer to as FOC (front of center). Here's how to do it. Measure the total length of the arrow. Assume 30", for example. Now take a pencil and mark the middle (15"). Then try to balance the arrow and find at what point you get perfect balance. Mark this point and measure it. For example, let's say it balances at 12" from the point end or 3" forward the your center mark.
Now divide the 3" by the 30" and you get 10%, so you are shooting an arrow with 10% FOC. For a hunting setup anything between 10% and 15% is good. For a target setup it could go down as low as 7% and still shoot OK.
Got it?

depends on what you're using the arrow for. For greater down range accuracy, you generally want around 12-15% FOC (forward of center). If you're just shooting 20 yd spots or in your backyard, I don't know that it makes that much difference though. I know guys that shoot and hunt with only a 8-10% FOC and do well. General consensus though is that for longer range you'll want a higher FOC because it helps to "guide" or "lead" the front of the arrow down range.
My wife packed my bags and threw me out, as I was walking out the door, she told me "I hope you have a long and miserable life!"... To which I replied "Oh, now you want me to stay?!" LOL

Do you measure nock tip to insert end, or use a fp or bh to get the foc?
Easton say from nock groove to the insert, but I mesure the entire length, end to end. Afterall, the entire length is what makes up the true FOC. However, it's not that critical.
