How often do you guys shoot your bows? Why?

Weater permitting, I shoot once or twice a week, 30-50 arrows in a sitting. Mostly because I can, it's relaxing, and practice makes perfect (I've got a LONG ways to go )

At least 5 days per week. I try for the weekends too but sometimes that means getting to shoot a whole lot - or - not at all.

I bring a bow to work with me every day and have a target set up in the shop.

Instead of coffee or smoke breaks - I take Bow Breaks.

Why - - - - well I guess I am just an addict.

I try to shoot every other night at least a dozen or so. Its not uncommon on weekends with 3D and just messing around in the back yard to shoot a couple hundred shots.

I try to shoot as often as i can. Usually about 25 to 5 arrows about 3 times a week. Why? I just got in to bow shooting a month ago and am trying to get my form down pat so i can out shoot my friends pse.

Back some 35 years ago I just about lived with a bow in my hand. Shot about 3 hours 5 days a week; some practice and then half a field round. Then shot a field tournament every Sunday. I shot two divisions.

Unlimited which back then meant release, scopes, long stabilizers, counter weights--the whole bowl of wax. There were no classes. When you picked up a release it was "welcome to the big time". The diaily practice sessions were to keep the muscles working and supertune the brain. I averaged about 600 shots a week. Considering the equipment in those days (1977 Jennings Arrowstar, 1614 X7 arrows) my average score was 533 out of a possible 560, quite good for the amateur I was.

Somewhere along the way our state organization, PSAA, instituted the Bowhunter Freestyle division. The idea was to get more bowhunters involved. Then they screwed it up by making a bunch of stupid rules. Finger release, no peep sight, arrows had to eigh at least 400 grains and be tipped with at least a 100 grain field tip (double taper). Glue in or bullet points were illegal. Sight could only have 4 fixed pins. No adjustable sights. Shot a regular field round (112 arrows) with nothing over 60 yards. My bow in those days was a Ben Pearson Pro Staff 4000 (4 wheeler) peaking 61# and holding 38#.

So now on Sundays I shot Unlimited in the morning and Bowhunter in the afternoon. Say 30 warm up shots for each and 112 per round. Totaled out at nearly 300 shots on Sunday alone. Talk about a glutton for punishment. My wife was forever rubbing the kinks out of my back and shoulders.

Then and now I shoot 3 nights week during the winter, but always liked it outside so when the weather breaks I'm off to the club. Old and worn out I only shoot about 5 days a week these days (weather permitting).
