Berger Holes

Was tuning up the old/new Firecat, and was wondering. Everyone says to level the arrow through the Berger holes. Is there anything wrong with the arrow being under the holes? Mine tuned in VERY easily, but the top of the arrow is right along the underside of the Berger holes. Shooting great, so I'm not worried, just wondering if anyone else has had this happen, or any problems it might cause. Thanks!

Idon't know who started this thing about the Berger holes. Those holes are for mounting a rest and nothing else. Although I have no scientific data to back me up I've always felt that the lower you can mount the rest and still get fletching clearance with the shelf the better. Mounted lower the rest is getting closer to the center of the bow (usually right through the shelf area).

If you like it and it tunes well then so be it and don't let some backyard pro tell you otherwise.

Thanks Barry! That was kinda the way I was thinking too. Lower meant closer to true center. Even Martin says to line the arrow up with the holes though, so I thought I'd check. As easy as this one tuned, it makes me wonder if it wouldn't have been beneficial to lower the rest and nock on some of my tougher to tune bows. Might give it a try with one of them, and see what changes it makes.

I don't think there was ever any real reason to use the berger holes to setup, other than as an easy point of reference. All in all, nothing is written in stone and as long as they fly well, that's that the important thing

I use it as a starting point seems to work out,im pretty close to it on my current setup so i dont know,if it work's it work's.................

when i tune my bow it may not be how others do it just for the fact i dont shoot the same as everyone.i use them holes as a starting point but in the end the bow is tuned for me.so as long as you have it set up for you and shooting how you like go with it.

I had never really paid attention to where the arrow was in relation to the holes, until I started hearing about it several years ago. Never had any of the problems tuning back then either. I figured the tuning difference might just be in the faster speeds everything shoots now. It's one of those "DUH!" moments.....lol Might be slow, but I do learn.

Too much technophobia can make archery more or less a pain. Ehunter Iam with you on this one, set both my Ripcords to clear the shelf and started flinging arrows. Small adjustments of loop and rest and both bows shoot bullet hole through paper. And will group bareshaft, fieldpoints and my Buzzcuts together at 20 yards. Need no more than that to stick a buck or a haybale. Oh and I don't own any lazer alignment tools. Used to use those to align turbine shafts to .0005 over a 30' span at work, archery for me is not work, thank God
