Help me stay with Martin Bows! Teen Bow.

I like the specs on the Bear as well. I have always liked Bear bows. I feel Bear and Martin always strive to bring a solid product at a fair price. I have had three Bears a Kodiak compound and two Whitetail IIs no problems with any of them. If I had not bought my wood riser Warthog I would more then likely be shooting a Bear today.

It doen't matter what bow company you go with make sure it fits him and he will love it I see so many people get a bow for there kids that don't fit them and the kids lose interest in shooting them

I'm 99 percent sure now that we found the bow for my son!. It's a Mission Riot. I was impressed too!. I was interested in the Bear bow but the other archery shop had none on hand to try out. it would have been a buy it first deal. My son and I took our usual grocery shopping trip in Spokane and decided to stop at the mathews, Hoyt dealer...Spokane valley Archery and spoke to Mark. Mark was great. He gave us the lowdown on the Mission craze and Riot. I wasn't too thrilled about the craze. Maybe if my son was much smaller I would get the craze. The craze was too light. It would make a great blind bow, short ATA. Mark was so kind as to set the Riot up and let my son shoot it a few times. My son has never shot a compound bow with release so this was a first for him. Mark checked his Draw length and my son was off shooting. It was perfect for my son. This riot has a fantastic draw and weight range. ( the Specs are below). SVA had a special bow package going so i think I'm MIGHT buy the package. plus We get a special price on the club membership and free setup, etc. The bow will come with a basic 3 pin sight, sling, 3 beman ics junior arrows, drop away rest with custom molded arrow rest set up and a tru fire junior release for $ 499 plus tax.

Here's some Iphone pics I took of the demo bow. Not the best pics But I know you guys are like me!. Pics are always great!. Gabriel shot it at 35 pounds. He told me later that the bow was easy to shoot and comfortable. He is kinda shy around people he just met so he didn't tell mark to crank the poundage up. I think he will have no problem going passed the 40 pound minimum for hunting. I'm looking forward to getting the bow package together and trying out the 3-d range and shooting with my son. I called my dad up and told him we found the bow and he said not to wait for Christmas. As soon as it's all put together, he can have it, he needs to practice as much as possible for next year.

How old is the youngster? If he's in that growth spurt mode I wouldn't worry about and inch of draw lenght, just have him release from the string until he grows a little. I'd call Joel and get the lowdown on and Exile with 50 pound limbs. I will never buy a matthews for the simple reason you cannot get any CS except through a dealer, 2 hr one way drive for me and Martin CS is the best.

He will be 12 this January. I keep jumping back and forth when it comes to other bow brands because I'm a martin fan. The hard part about living out in the country with the nearest Martin Pro shop 95 miles away is the drive but mainly they don't carry stock bows. they can't afford to carry a lot of bows. So it's a buy first kind of situation. We can actually buy a 24 DL bow and be all good. We haven't bought the bow yet. We told him that we would come back. They had the demo bow and didn't have a new one on the rack, just the craze.

Your right about Martin Customer service. I've spoken to Joel several times and it's been great. Now you got me thinking again...I don't know anything about Mathews or their service.

I'm gonna have to go through the Martin catalog again and see if any other dealer stocks a particular bow We wanted. I don't like buying a bow without shooting it first. I might have to take a trip over to Idaho. I want to make sure my son enjoys the bow and feels comfortable with it. I'll have him decide which bow he wants.

I think it's a great excuse to take a trip down to Walla Walla before the snow drops. I'm not sure if Martin has a shop at the warehouse but I do believe there's a Martin dealer or two nearby that stocks most of the bows down in that area. It's about 210 miles one way. More to test shoot before we buy.

I'd make the trip to Walla Walla, I'm sure that there is a shop there somewhere, if not a showroom. It will also give you a chance to try a couple of Martins Longbows, and you already know the company's customer servive policy. At 12 yo, Gabriel is likely to hit that growth spurt soon, and if you can get him shooting a 24 draw length with a few alterations to string, loop and release aid, you can get hin into a bow that you know you can trust, and most likely save enought to pay for the trip to Walla Walla.

I recently put a set of Nitrous "C" cams on my daughters Martin Leopard, with mini mods it goes up to about 27" to 27-1/2", so it should go down to about 24" to 24-1/2", and with regular mods it should go about 2" longer than those numbers (so plenty of growing room).

It just depends if you want to take the time to find some cams and mods for it, or if you just want something straight off the shelf.

We bought the Leopard for her in about '09, we even had it custom powder coated for her, and all was good for a little while, until she had a growth spurt, and soon ran out of adjustment on the mini M-Pro cam that comes standard on the Leopard, and goes to about 26" DL.

Of course, she wanted to keep her custom bow, and had been asking me for a while if we could put a shoot through system on it, so I took the Nitrous cams and mods off my SlayR and put them on her Leopard, I'm not sure how fast it is, but it seems pretty quick compared to all the other kids bows that she shoots against (she loves it)

It went from being a 40 pound bow with the mini M-Pro cam, to about 50-55 pound with the Nitrous "C" cams on the same limbs. (I've had to turn it down a fair bit for her to be able to shoot it comfortably all day) so plenty of growing room there as well.

And now she is just about out of adjustment on the mini mods, so I eventually managed to scrape up a set of regular mods for it (still in the post, thanks Don), my daughter only just turned 14 about a week ago and she already has a draw length of around 27"

Around here alot of folks set thier kids up with the PSE Chaos, you can swap out the draw mods and I think you can get limbs to 60 pounds.

Thanks for all the replies. We haven't bought anything. I showed him the new 2013 Martin Catalog and showed him the Skullz camo available on Martin bows. He loves Skulls and stuff like that. We can get away with a 24.5 DL. We are gonna need to take some drives to get some bows in our hands. Waiting on the new models to come out.
