I have three knives that I constantly use. A Buck Skinner, and a Schrade Oldtimer 1520 that are always in my pack, and a Smith & Wesson 'Homeland Security' first production run CK9H folder that I carry in my pocket. I keep them all shaving sharp with an old Saunder's broadhead whetstone that I've worn 1/2 a dozen knives away with, had it since 1968. It is a two grit stone, medium and fine. I gut with the S & W, skin with the Buck, and de-bone with the little cheapie Schrade OT 1520. This little knife is so handy, and popular in our family, all of us have one, hard to beat this knife, costs less than $20, and will hold an edge all the way through the entire process, has a sort of utility blade design as you can go from from gutting to de-boning with it. Not much more I can say about the stone other than it has out lasted more that a 1/2 dozen knives, and looks like it did the day I got it.

I have this 3 set of buck knives. The Skinning and caping knives work great. In the heat of the moment after killing my deer i keep forgetting that I have a gut hook knife and end up using the caping knife for almost everything. I have cut through the chest cavity and even split an pelvic bone with the little knife.

I told the wife I would like one these work Sharpeners really bad for Christmas. Some of the guys over on AT in the traditional Forum have even been using it to sharpen certain broadheads.

Hutch; been using a Buck Woodsman 102 for ever, guts, (skins if you want to), and debones a 120-200lb deer just fine. It's the only knife I carry hunting or fishing, I carry a small folding diamond hone to touch up if needed. Sent you an E-Mail.

I use two SOG knives with AU8 steel and your basic stone with rough and fine sides.

Buck Vanguard with guthook. Had this knife about 6 years, and I use it for everything hunting. I use it to cut through the breastbone as well. Only have to sharpen it every couple deer. It'll stay sharp for at least 2 deer, I just don't push it beyond that. For a sharpener, I use the Gatco system with the diamond stone for the final stone. For a quick tune up on knives, I use either a Smith's carbide sharpener, or a flat diamond stone.
