I have had to have both shoulders repaired by surgery, I put up with the pain too long and my right shoulder was horrible it took a full year to recover after the surgery. The Doc said I would never shoot a bow, lift weights or even crank a weed eater because the damage was so bad. After 4 months of religious rehab and following all the instructions by the therapist I am back to where I was before . So don't put it off like I did.Find a good orthopedic surgeon and go from there.Hope my rant helps. I was 57yoa for the first surgery and 59yoa for the last one.

    orthopedic,
they're the ones that do the " my parts won't move without hurtin'" AKA orthropod,
and maybe your regular doc is correct, being in the aviation industry we do lots of "repetitive motions" and high impact operations, lots of shoulder injuries from working overhead, and carpal tunnel from the rivet guns.
they can do wonders with Physical therapy to strengthen the muscles that are not used very much in certain areas causing the pain,
torn rotators are common with weight lifters, so if you workout lots or do much lifting or pressing ( bench pressing) at work then P.T. may help.
Start at the regular doc, if he says PT then check them out, they may send you to or recommend a specialist, if he says a regimen of ice and Ibuprofen try it for a couple weeks, he/she should also be able to do MRI or X-rays and have a look inside
BUT GET IN QUICK. don't be a ME. and say it'll heal .... It won't by itself

Thanks guys orthopedic doc it is. My regular doc is nice and all but he is a fruitcake with extra nuts. I will do it in a week or so. I promise. Need to shoot again, I have way to much stress.

I have not had a chance to go see the doc. My wife had a hysterectomy last week so I have had my hands full. Hope to see one in a week.
