    Default Other Hobbies

It's been something I've been promising for a very long time, but I finally got around to posting a video of my other favorite hobby----scuba diving. The video in question is one of a shark dive I participated in about a month ago while diving in Fiji. There were 16 divers in a line. No cages or other protection of any kind. The two most prevalent species were bull and lemon sharks, and very large ones at that with some of the bull sharks estimated at nearly 1000 pounds.

Barry, how much did the custom wetsuit cost you? I figure it had to be custom to hold a set of balls that big. lol GREAT video! Not sure it's something I'd want to do, but definitely great to watch. Thanks for posting!

The trash can was full of fish parts to draw in all the other fish and as the video shows, some larger pieces to feed the sharks. About the wetsuit comment. When I visit places like Fiji I wear what we call a "skins". It's simply a lycra one piece suit. The water temperature was very consistant at 87 degrees F. 84 dgrees at depth, which was 86'. That's partly the reason everything looks blue or green.

We actually did two dives. During the second one the sun came from behind the clouds and gave a little more light, thus a little bit more color. As for the size of some of those sharks? I've been scuba diving since 1969 and these are the largest I've ever seen. Some of the bulls are estimated at 1000 pounds. The lemon sharks ranged between 6' and 10' long.

Sharks get a bad rap on TV and the public gets inaccurate info for the sake of TV ratings. Sharks are pussycats, Yes they have nasty teeth and can be dangerous, but you can't see in the video that I actually reached out and stroked four or five of them as they swam by within 2' of me. Of course I waited till the teeth went by.

Now that was cool. Just make sure you always come back in one piece, no matter how cuddly Mr. Shark is.
