Default If not Martin ... who?

We all have our loyalties ... let's just say Martin ceases to exist, or imagine they never did for that matter because I'd rather not think about the first option ... what bow from what other company would you likely shoot or would like to shoot?

    I'll start.

Since seeing the 2013 lineup from Bear really blew me away with what they came out with, the Motive 6 and Empire have really tickled my fancy. I'd be happy to give the Method a whirl also ... like a simplified less expensive Motive 6/7 cross.

All the other companies I just don't really dig right now, I can't stand Mathews risers and same with the PSE riser/limb setup.

The only other bow that I've seen that I think would be nice to shoot is the Vector series from that other company that I choose not to name Shot with a gentlemen at a 3D this year that was shooting the Vector 35 and it was sharp.

i probably would lean towards Bear.
i've had many in the past and they were...hate to say it...but better in many ways than any martin i have owned. Trouble free as well.
My 2 black ice's were sharp to.
A older Mathews would do me fine.
    Hoyt alphamax comes to mind.

*when you have actual engineers with degrees.....and a truly trained machinist.....you will always get better quality and durability.
Martin did good for soooooooo many years without either. It finally caught up to them.
They should've recognized their weakness and made a proactive move to strengthen it, but stubborness and pride got in the way.

droppixel..your bengal is a shooter. Hopefully martin gets bought and moves forward to once again become a reputable bow company.

Bengal isn't going anywhere. Intend on keeping that bow around as long as possible just because of the flexibility with the Cam ... I can turn it down far enough for my sons to shoot when they are ready.

You boys gots to get out in the world.... Though it seems the there are only over a hand full of bow companies there are actually several. Some are low keyed. Kodiak Outdoors with their only bow, a 34" ata hunting bow. I had their proto type model, the Bow Logic 36. It never went into production. Another company had the forward set grip, licensed through Martin. Last I heard it is still going. Whatever happened to Martin's forward adjustable grip bow?

I forget the numbers, but X number of bow companies start up and X number of bow companies closes the doors and this each year. Clear Water disolved maybe some 10 years back. Whisper Creek went down the drain 4 or 5 years back. God awfulest, ugliest, shortest ata, wouldn't want to have bow I ever shot and so dang sweet to shoot. Browning and Jennings are also gone. And of all things that compound recurve double cam single string thing is still going, XI.

So Hoyt, PSE, Bear, Pearson, and Martin round up the oldest companies going. Pearson is the world's oldest bow company, 86 years old. Hoyt comes in second at 82 years old. Bow age wise, Mathews is maybe just entering puberty, but it sure is strong for it youthful age. Bowtech is also a newbie as is Ross, if Ross really is still going.

And I have just barely touched the surface of bow companies.

I am still being optimistic that this too shall pass.

But there are some other companies out there that I would lean towards if I had to. One in particular is Alpine Archery. They're a working man's bow company similar to Martin and they make a heck of a bow, although I don't particularly care for some of there riser designs.

Obsession archery would be worth a peak if they had anyone in the northwest dealing, which they don't lol.

If the G5 Prime bows weren't so spendy they'd get a serious look; thier new parallel cam design is pretty interesting and very smooth.

And I do like some of Bowtech's stuff, especially in the last couple years since they changed their grip design.

Bows I've shot on Hutch's list....and tid bits

    1) BEAR ARCHERY
    http://www.beararcheryproducts.com/
Shot one that I should have bought - just incredible.

    2) PSE ARCHERY
    http://www.pse-archery.com/
Shot several, but impressive was the Vendetta XL.

    3) MATTHEWS ARCHERY
    http://mathewsinc.com/
Years back, fastest bow in the world at the time, the Black Max. Year 2000. 330 fps.

    4) BOWTECH
    http://www.bowtecharchery.com/
Had a Old Glory and vowed to never own another.

    5) HOYT ARCHERY
    http://www.hoyt.com/
UltraTec by which all other bows should be gauged. Had 11 of them.

    6) DARTON ARCHERY
    http://www.dartonarchery.com/
Shot several, but the Yukon was Darton's best kept secret - fast, but kicked like a young mule.

    9) ALPINE ARCHERY
    http://www.alpinearchery.com/
Their target bow was quite nice, but their hunting bow was the clunkest, heaviest bow I ever picked up.

    10) BEN PEARSON ARCHERY CO
    http://www.benpearson.com/home.htm
My first compound when returning to archery at the end of 1998 and my present target bow, the MarXman, fast enough and accurate.
News flash; Pearson is coming out this year with a new single cam hunting bow. Fully adjustable draw mod and adjustable positive stop.

    11) DIAMOND ARCHERY
    http://www.diamondarchery.com/
The first one I shot was so quiet I wondered if I shot.

    15) MARTIN ARCHERY
    http://www.martinarchery.com/
Shot several and all darned good bows.

    16) PARKER COMPOUND BOWS
    http://parkerbows.com/
Shot their Black Knight or whatever it was called. 350 fps was awesome, but not for me.

    18) ATHENS ARCHERY
    http://www.athensarchery.com/
Shot one of the first out. All but Robin Hooded my first arrow with my second. I complained of the square grip and they have since made it so much better. Would love to have a Excell.

    26) CP ONEIDA EAGLE (innovative bow designs)
    http://www.cponeidaeagle.com/products.htm
It shoots and that's all that I have good to say about it.

    27) LIBERTY ARCHERY (innovative bow designs)
    http://www.libertyarchery.com/
Pocket bow. Grip like holding a .38 Spl and kicks like one.

    29) KODIAK OUTDOORS
    http://www.kodiak-outdoors.com/
One bow company, they sure have a smooth one and accurate.

    32) Merlin bows
    http://www.merlin-bows.co.uk/
Another squarish grip bow. Wouldn't have one if they gave it to me.

    33) ROSS ARCHERY
    http://www.rossarchery.com/
Actually a pretty nice little bow.

    42) Browning Archery:
    http://www.browning.com
Never cared for them, but they shot nice.
    I thought Browning was done....

Another bow gone that I really liked, Golden Eagle passed on about 12 years ago. Just about anyone could pick one up and shoot it. I know where one is that never came into production. Bows today are just reaching it's speed. Owner says he'll let me shoot some day and he keeps saying it...darn him.
