    Default Aransas National Wildlife Refuge

I was able to get tags for me and a buddy to bowhunt this Federal land. It is on the coast of Texas. I have been doing a lot of Google scouting. I also joined a Texas bowhunting forum to get some tips. It is flat, with a few shallow draws. For the most part it is 30,000 acres of grass land mixed with short skinny wind swept oaks. My method will be stand hunting from a tri-pod. I will be allowed to scout and put stands up early if I take the IBEA class down there. So, I will be certifiable in September. The word on the street is that this place has gators, water mocassins that chase and attack, 15' rattlers, and mosquitos that are often mistaken for turkeys. The good news is, the rut in that area should be full swing during the hunt; 10/4-10/8. Have any of y'all been down there? I am pretty excited, my Mother in-law lives down there and have always wanted to do a hunt on the coast. They say that if I survive I will have crossed over to some new dimension of the hunter's status, and if I kill something I will be some sort of elite hunter.

Sounds good T8. You'll be fine, just make sure you don't take off your pink camouflage.LOL

Seriously though, I hope you have a good time, and remember, we must have pics.

Sounds pretty interesting. Mosquitos the size of turkeys? I guess everything is bigger in Texas. I'm considering moving there right after they secede from the USA.

You sure will be if you can take one of those turkey sized skeeters on the wing!

They already did that! Texas was also a independant Republic before seceding, thats why they are called the Lone Star State.

Sounds like a blast to me! Except for the snakes thing, I hate snakes...

The odd thing is, we are NOT ALLOWED to kill snakes. Only hogs and deer are permissible to kill. Last year a cotton mouth came out of the ditch to attack a guy who was changing clothes at his truck. He kicked it away and the thing came back. I have never heard of a snake hugger before.

So that sounds like a plan, the snake attacks, and your options are basically "Run for the hills". Ridiculous.

I would say you have the right to protect yourself but you never know I guess.

Protection= Snake boots and a long stick to nudge the sweet darlings off my trail. Hills? You mean sand dunes? I can see my self running away from the snake into the jaws of one of those gators.
