I've found if you have wide axles, you'll have more noise. At one time I had a wide axle on the bottom limb of my hunter, and had to put string silencers on all 4 cables to quiet it down. I've since gone back to the standard axle, letting the cables touch, which acts like string silencers. I originally went to wide axles in order to seperate the cables, but soon found if I used wide axles top and bottom, the cables still touched. Am now back with standard axles, and keep the cables waxed. Let 'em touch.

This one does have what I assume are the wide axles. Got a spacer against the limb, then the grooved piece to hold the cable ends. My cables touch with this set up as well. Is there anything wrong with my thinking that the cables on this could be made with fewer strands since there are two cables for each cam? Figure maybe try half the strand count for each cable?? Thought maybe lighter cables might stop some of the noise. Thanks again too all that are teaching me!

If your bow has the same axle top and bottom, the cables will still touch, but you'll have tons of vane clearance. When I had the wide axles, I had just one on the bottom limb, which gave me enough clearance to shoot blazers, more than enough. The right side down cable had enough clearance with the standard axle. But once I seperated my cables they made noise, just like the shoot string. With the wide axles, I had a spacer outside the limb as you described, and then the cable pieces. Another thing, because they were so wide, they curved! Thought that they were bent until I took them out and rolled them on a flat surface. Still straight.

Just so you know, all pieces of that string set are 24 strands of BCY X. I asked Hutch once how he made his cables for shoot throughs and he told me 24 for them all.... No matter if it was a shoot through, binary or a hybrid. That was the model I followed in crafting the set on the bow.

    Hope this helps!

I usually had 12 strand cables on my Nitrous, but i guess that is just me.

I wondered about this. It stood to reason to me that two 24 strand cables and four 12 strand cables were equivelant. I intended to try a "hybrid" of 18 strands.... I ended up going 24. I'm not sure what is "right". Arguments can be formed on either side from what I can tell.
