I let my friend pull my firecat back, i let him know that it has a ratical break point to be careful. when it goes to let it up he dry fired it. i cant see any cracks in the limbs no strings came off track however it did blow the bottom nocks off the string the ones that had the heat wrap around them i guess they are on there for extra spped. what else should i do to ensure there is no damage to my firecat prox?

If you're fairly new to archery, best to take it to a reputable bow shop to get checked out. If you do have the experience, disassemble the bow and check out every component on it with a magnifying glass.

All Martin bows don't need a bow press, simply wind down the limbs.

If all turns out OK, it's heartening news for Firecat Pro X owners.

OK, you likely could show me a thing or 2. Bought my first Martin 30 years ago, probably the best value bows ever made.

By the way, yes the nocks on the shoot string are there for extra speed but the positioning of them is fairly critical, a little bit off and they can actually reduce speed.

Speed nocks are a waste of time any way. You might get a fps or two but its not enough to justify the effort.

I kind of feel this way, too. I've delved into it, but to do it right you have to own or have access to a chronograph. Then you have to place them on the string, try it over the chrono, then move them a little and try again. Maybe have to add one or two more and do it all again. All this for MAYBE 3-5 fps.

Sorry, but I can think of a lot more ways to gain 5 fps. Besides that my chrono bit the dust a couple years ago and I'm not going to buy another one.

Hmm..

I put 2 brass nocks on each side of the string on my ShadowCat. As i have not to worry about speed at all with my drawlength i do not care about losing some fps. Just liked the effect of 'calming down the bow' a bit. The nocks reduced the noise made at the shot a bit. To be honest i do not even care about that but as they are on the string by now..

To all that helped with my question. after tearing the firecat down i found no cracks in my limbs, no damage to the axels and all is well. martin makes some tuff bows. i did tweak my cams a little by adding some twist to the buss cables and takeing some out of the string to get the cam to roll out a little more. It lowered the brace height by a 8th in gained a little weight and let me tell you that thing screams now. cant wait to get it on the range and see how well it works out. thanks again for all of your feedback
