Default Will a 55 inch string work when bow came with a 54 inch......

I have a Martin X-200 Recurve Bow, it came with a 54 inch string and I want to know if I can use a 55 inch string.

It will work, yes. You will lose Braceheight and maybe even a bit of poundage but it wont hurt. If you want your bow to perform as with the current string.. you need a 54" string.

You will have to wind the crap out of it or tie some knots in it. A bit rough but it works. 55" is too long.

On a 60" recurve such as the X-200 you should use a string that is 3" shorter than the length of the bow, as stated by the AMO standards. Your string length should be 57". Martin uses this industry standard on all traditional bows and has done so for many, many years.

    BOW LENGTH STANDARD

A Bow String Master designated as AMO 66 (bow length) will have an actual length under tension of 63.

About 4" shorter on all the bows I've owned, allowing for stretch.
