I am being told by hunterfriends.com that the Bengal is a pro shop only bow. They say that they can't order one because of this. Does this mean that the box store such as Sportsman warehouse wouldn't carry it either?

It means that you can only buy it at a dealer that is a Martin pro shop. You can't buy pro series bows off the internet.
The Bengel is not a pro series bow, it is a gold series. I don't know anything about it being a pro shop anly bow but I do know that G.I. Joes has one and can order them.

Being a Gold Series bow it should be available at box stores and such. Only the Pro Series bows are reserved for Pro Shops only.
Gold Series bows include the Cougar, Bengal, Cheetah, Jaguar, and Leopard.
