I started with feathers and in the mid 70's changed to vanes. Small ones for field; 4" for hunting. I guess it was some time in the mid 90's a gravitated back to feathers and have stuck with them. I have a couple hunting arrows made up with vanes, but being as I don't hunt any more they are relegated to the bone pile.

one thing I do like about feathers is that for the most part they don't have any clearance problems, no matter what type of rest is used. And no matter how ratty or torn up they get they still stabilize the shaft. Another is that they weigh so little that I've often shot arrows with one or even two missing and still hit the mark.

I like Trueflight myself, but I know a number of people that swear by Gateway. I think Trueflights are more consistant in color and have a larger selection of colors.

As for size, i normally use 4" but have used 5" for indoors also.

Sounds good to me. When I am ready I will have to give them a try.

I'm a fan of Trueflight, too, although I shoot Gateways also. It depends somehwat on what kind of deals I get on them. The last batch (100) Trueflights I got were black 4" LW and I bought them for $2. Not often that this happens. And being as I use a Bitz and have RW and LW clamps I have lots of options.

Getting back on track, I use 2" for 3D and 4" for all hunting (I quit hunting) and indoor spots. Color? Again, sometimes dictated by my wallet. I'm flexible.
