Dual vs. Single Cam

Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what the pros and cons of single vs dual cams are? I'm thinking in particular of the Firecat 360 vs 400. Which would be the best for 3D? The bow would be a 50 pound, 28 inch draw.

I'd go for the dual cam to get some speed @ 50#. My Cheetah has an Mpro cam that is a nice shooter. Solid wall and decent speed,though I haven't had it chrony'd. It's a 60# bow. I haven't shot Martin's newer dual cams,but there are several others on here that have the FC 400,Silencer,and Onza 3. All of which have the cat cams. Stick around,youll get the info soon.

At your DL and DW the hybrid Nitro cams will give you more speed and since you take the bow for 3D i'd say there's not much room for doubt - the Firecat 400! ....Unless you're an absolute begginer in archery, then the single cam bow is a better option i think.

I'd go for the dual cam (binary), too. If you do some searching you'll find I've made several posts about the difference between them. To get the same speed from the single cam (Accutrac) you have to shoot 7 to 8# more weight. At the same draw weight, shooting the same arrow the Binary cam will shoot about 15 fps faster.

I see you asked about a 3D setup. I shoot light weight (about 45#) and a slightly shorter draw at 27" and find that if you do your homework you can get an arrow light enough to still get decent speed with the dual cam.

About a month ago I chrono'd my FireCat and is was shooting 272 fps. This was with a GT UL-600 weighing 230 gr and the bow set at 41.5#. I've since then bumped up the draw weight to 46#, getting ready for outdoor 3D, so I need to chrono it again, but I would expect it to be shooting between 280 fps and 285 fps. Being a senior I don't have to shoot anything over 35 yards at most shoots I find this to be very acceptable speed.

Cat, Cat II, or Nitro cams are virtually all the same for purposes of this discussion, just as are MPro, M2Pro, or Accutrac.

Single cam bows seem a little easier to tune in some cases. Also a few less things to worry about, cam timing, etc. The advantage to a 2 cam bow, is speed. I personally like a 2 cam bow, but I own a couple single cams as well. Actually, shot my 3 biggest deer with a single cam Moab. Also remember, with more speed, comes more noise and vibration. Not a big consideration with most of the newer bows out there, but it's still noticeable.
